In Week 8, the Eagles got back on track and gutted out a 24-18 win over a stumbling Jacksonville Jaguars team and got their season back on track. While the game was very ugly and the team lost their two starting tackles, this team found a way. Here are 5 takeaways from the game:
1. Find a way.
The first play of the game, Jason Kelce came out with an injury, however, he did come back into the game. Later in the first quarter, Jason Peters exited the game with a concussion and Lane Johnson left the game with a sprained MCL. Most teams, upon losing two of their best players, would pack it up and call it a day, but, this team did not. They adjusted, and played through the setbacks for the rest of the game. Big V and Wis stepped up and made sure the Jacksonville pass rush stayed at bay for most of the day. By the Eagles worked through the strife, we learned a lot about the heart of the team.
2. Ertz is a Top-2 TE in the league
Another game, another Ertz TD. Here’s the list of the best tight ends in the league:
- Travis Kelce
- Zach Ertz
- George Kittle
- Trey Burton
- Rob Gronkowski
With the way that Ertz has been a reliable target for this team, it is about time that is treated like one of the best players in the league.
3. Carson Wentz needs to be better.
While he did have 3 TDs, Wentz made a couple early mistakes that made the Jaguars have a shot at winning the game. He had an early fumble and an early pick. While it didn’t make the Eagles lose, it made for much more stress than there needed to be. Thankfully, he has the upcoming bye week to correct his mistakes.
With the trade deadline on Tuesday, Howie Roseman needs to make a move to improve this team. Some targets that he could be targeting include:
- DeSean Jackson
- Ha-Ha Clinton-Dix
- Le’Veon Bell
- Jordan Howard
- Patrick Peterson
- Janoris Jenkins
There needs to be some addition to this team for them to have a chance to repeat as Super Bowl champs.
5. Thank goodness for the bye week.
This team needs a weak to heal. With all of the injuries that they have had, they need a chance to take a break to recharge.
With the aforementioned bye coming up, the Eagles will recharge from this win as they gear up for a prime time match-up with the Dallas Cowboys.
