Day 1 Of Training Camp Review

Day 1 of training camp is complete and now we look back at what we saw from the Quarterbacks and Rookies and select veterans.

•Mack Hollins still isn’t wearing gloves.  He had a drop during 7 vs 7 drills on a deep ball from Wentz

•Nate Gerry, a rookie from Wisconsin, practiced with the second team linebackers. Gerry played safety in college and has made the shift to linebacker during the offseason.
•Ron Brooks was practicing full time after sustaining a quadricep injury in October that ended his season. He looked impressive last year and, if healthy, is expected to start at nickel cornerback.

•Jordan Hicks was limited during practice due to a recent hand surgery after injuring it on his honeymoon.

•Doug Pederson stated during his press conference that Shelton Gibson was “by no means where he wants to be or where we want him to be”. Throughout OTA’s and minicamp, it was noted several times that Gibson was dropping passes. Gibson is a rookie who was taken in the fifth round and is described as a down field threat.

•Corey Clement was seen catching passes out of the backfield, something that the big running back did not do often in his time with Wisconsin.

•Sidney Jones was in attendance, however he remained on the sidelines as he recovers from his ruptured achilles injury. The rookie CB also attended multiple offseason practices.

•Jordan Matthews will also be limited to begin camp. He has knee tendinitis and it has kept him out of all offseason practices.

In irrelevant news…

•Shelton Gibson switched his number from #80 to #18 which, in my opinion, is a lot better.

•Doug Pederson stated that Nick Foles will serve as a mentor to Carson Wentz. I love Nicky 6, St. Nick, Mr. 27-2, whatever you wanna call him, as much as the next guy, but i don’t know how much wisdom he can share with Carson. But hey, almost anything is better than Doug Pederson Jr, Chase Daniel.

•Torrey Smith was at Nova Care, playing with his kids on the field after practice. Veteran WRs did not have to report today.

•Brian Dawkins was also at camp today. He, in fact, did not run out of the locker room on his hands and knees. But damn, that would’ve been awesome.
