The Eagles are favorites to win this Sunday against the Giants, however, New York is 0-2 and are desperate for a win. It is still a division game for the Birds and if they don’t win these key matchups throughout the game, they may be in for a huge upset.
Vinny Curry vs. Ereck Flowers
This is the most obvious and maybe most important matchup for this week. Flowers was an obvious weak link for the Giants when they lost to the Detroit Lions on Monday Night Football last week. Flowers allowed Ezekiel ” Ziggy” Ansah to blow by him for 3 sacks on Eli Manning. Eagles DE Vinny Curry has looked improved this season compared to last, despite not yet recording a sack. Against Kansas City, he nearly sacked Alex Smith on 3rd down until Smith broke free from his grip. If Curry can have a game similar to Ansah’s last week, Manning will have a lot of problems.
Chance Warmack vs. Damon “Snacks” Harrison
This week, the Eagles benched their starting LG Isaac Seumalo for former 1st round pick Chance Warmack. Doug Pederson has stressed throughout this week that they need to improve their running game which may be difficult when lining up against a player like Snacks Harrison. who was one of the top run stoppers in the NFL last year. Warmack will need to work with center Jason Kelce and compete with Harrison all game long to help get the Eagles lackluster running game back on track and balance out their offense.
Alshon Jeffery vs. Janoris Jenkins
Against Kansas City, Alshon Jeffery caught 7 passes for 92 yards and 1 TD. It may be difficult for him to repeat such a performance when he lines up against “Jack Rabbit” Jenkins on Sunday. Jenkins was an All-Pro in 2016 and is regarded as one of the best cornerbacks in the league. Jenkins is a strong, physcial corner who will be more than capable of squaring up a big reciever like Jeffery. However, the Jack Rabbit is dealing with an ankle injury that kept him out of the Giants last game on Monday night. He has not practiced this week, but he is expected to play on Sunday. If Jeffery can find a way to take advantage of Jenkins being banged up, he will greatly help Carson Wentz and the Eagles passing attack.
Jalen Mills vs. Odell Beckham Jr.
With Ronald Darby still out of the lineup, 2nd year CB Jalen Mills will be covering NFL star Odell Beckham Jr for the majority of the game. Mills has shown flashes of potential in his two years here, but he has also shown the capability of being beat deep by quick recievers. He will need to bring his best on Sunday against Beckham. However, its more than likely OBJ wont be his usual self, as he is still dealing with a high ankle sprain. Odell was held to only 36 yards on 4 catches against the Lions. Mills may still require some safety help while guarding the 3x Pro Bowler, but Beckham not being completely healthy is a huge advantage for the Eagles that they need to capitalize on to win this game.
