Potential Additions to a Depleted Eagles Receiving Corps

Heading into week 15, your 6-7 Philadelphia Eagles are tied for 1st place in the utterly bad NFC East. Like The Script sang in their song Breakeven, this team is alive but barely breathing, especially with the most recent injury bug that has plagued the team.

The Eagles entered their Monday night matchup with just 3 healthy receivers on the roster and guess what? 2 of them ended up getting hurt. Although the extent of the Alshon and JJAW injuries have yet to be determined, it’s quite clear that the Eagles need some depth in their receiving corps moving forward.

I mean for goodness sake, our backup Quarterback was getting ready to run some routes.

Below are some receivers currently available through free agency that could help this injury riddled receiving corps.

Michael Crabtree
Baltimore signed him to be a declining Joe Flacco’s No.1 option just a season ago and since then he’s fell off the radar. Crabtree appeared in two games for the Arizona Cardinals this season before being cut. He hauled in just 4 catches for 22yds during his time there.

Crabtree has made a very solid career for himself in the NFL and I believe there’s still some left in the tank for the 11yr vet. Throwing him onto an Eagles team with a more established QB, he may be able to impress.

Bruce Ellington
Remember when the Eagles offense seemingly fell apart once DeSean Jackson went down in week 2? Well, Ellington is no DeSean but he offers the same type of speed to break the top off of defenses.

Ellington most recently was featured in Colin Kaepernick’s workout a few weeks back. Last season, the speedy receiver bounced around between Detroit and Houston, totaling 224yds and 1td in 7 games. We saw what Boston Scott’s speed did to New York. Why not add some more of that?

Josh Doctson
It wasn’t too long ago that Doctson was selected in the 1st round of the 2016 Draft by the Washington Redskins. With his rookie year plagued by injury, he followed up with back to back 500 yard seasons before being cut by the team prior to the 2019 campaign.

The 27yr old is incredibly gifted athletically but has struggled with drops throughout his career. With top of the line potential though, Doctson could give this Eagles receiving corps a boost and revive a once promising career.

Kevin White
Another case of a once promising career turned to dust, Kevin White once offered a ton of upside after being selected in the top 10 of the 2015 draft by the Chicago Bears. Since then? White has experienced a handful of injuries and just hasn’t produced while on the field.

With the Eagles current WR room, why not take your chances?

Dez Bryant
Wouldn’t this be odd? A longtime Dallas Cowboy coming into Philadelphia to help save a roller-coaster of a season for the Eagles. Now, Dez Bryant isn’t the receiver he once was but you have to believe he could still be productive despite being out of football for over a year.

Bryant has made it known that he’s fully healthy and ready for a return. This 3x Pro Bowler would provide depth and experience to this Philadelphia team at the very least.
