Last week Sixers fans got something that they’ve been waiting for. The Players’ Tribune leaked footage of the former number one pick shooting shots with his new and improved form. Based off the video it looks like spending the summer with shooting coach Drew Hanlen has paid off greatly.
Fultz’s shot has come a long way since the end of last season and it looks like he has his confidence back. This now leaves some tough decisions for the coaching staff if they should increase his role or not.
Although it looks like he should be inserted into the starting lineup this season I do not think that it is going to happen for a couple different reasons. The biggest reason I think he will stay with bench unit is that if he is kept on the bench unit he will be able to have the ball in his hands more which will help his development.
Another reason why I think that he will not start is size. If Fultz is inserted into the starting lineup the player most likely sent to the bench would be J.J. Redick. That could create match up problems on defense with the second unit backcourt being undersized with J.J.and McConnell.
The last reason why I think that he will stay with the second unit is that they are going to need him. With the second unit most likely being T.J., Fultz, Chandler, Muscala, and Johnson they are going to need a player who can go get a bucket when needed and Fultz will be that for the bench. Saving him for the second unit can instill confidence that this team can hold a lead when the starters come off the floor.
Just because he does not start the game does not mean he will not finish the game. When it comes down to crunch time I think that Fultz will be in there in place of Redick. Those are my takes on what the team will do with the 2017 number one pick but what do you think?
