Now that the Eagles are off to the 5-1 start, playoffs seem likely. The Eagles still have some wholes on the roster still though when you watch the games on any given Sunday. Like I do every week, I posted a poll asking fans what the biggest need is in the offseason.
This week a lot of people mentioned defensive back/safety. I personally think the biggest need is between running back and linebacker, but that’s irrelevant. This week I took the results of the poll, and gave you players that make sense for the Eagles to take in the first round.
Ronnie Harrison – Alabama Strong Safety, Plays Arkansas on ESPN @ 7:15
This week I got a few comments that said they want to see the Eagles target a safety in the draft. While the Eagles have one of the best safety duos in the league Malcolm Jenkins is getting up there in age. Harrison plays like Jenkins at Alabama. Harrison is often in the box and he is able to cover tight ends. Drafting Harrison in the first round would give the Eagles three really good safeties. I’m sure Schwartz could find a way to get Harrison on the field his rookie year. Imagine a secondary featuring Ronald Darby, Malcolm Jenkins, Rodney McLeod, Jalen Mills, Rasul Douglas, Ronnie Harrison, and a healthy Sidney Jones. Eagles fans would definitely revoice. I’d consider draft Harrison if he’s on the board when the Eagles are up in the first round.
Christian Kirk – Texas A&M Wide Receiver, Plays Florida on ESPN 2 @ 7:00
Christian Kirk is one of the favorites to be an Eagle next year. Kirk is exactly what the Eagles in a receiver. Kirk has the ability to take the top off the defense and that would allow to Ertz, Agholor and Jeffery to get yards across the middle. Kirk is also a return which is something the Eagles will need to address with Darren Sproles possibly not returning after the year. Christian Kirk would be the replacement for Torrey Smith on the offensive side of the ball. Kirk has been rumored around the Eagles since the beginning of college football. He’s expected to be a late round pick and that’s where I predict the Eagles to be picking after the 4-1 start.
Watch this video and you’ll see how much Kirk effects a football game.
Orlando Brown – Oklahoma Offensive Tackle, Plays Texas on ESPN @ 3:30
The Eagles got back to their old ways in drafting linemen last year. The Eagles during the Andy Reid Era always looked to build for the line out on the roster side of things. Last year the took Derek Barnett in the first round. Barnett has yet to record a sack, but his time will come. Drafting an offensive lineman in the first round might seem bold, but the fact is Jason Peters is getting up there in age. The Eagles have a decent backup tackle in Halapoulivaati Vaitai, but having depth is something Doug Peterson likes. Brown is a athletic tackle that stands at 6’7″ and weighing 340 lbs. Brown the last few years has had to protect Baker mayfield that like to scramble like Wentz. Picking a tackle with that experience is crucial. Drafting Brown in the first round is something I’d consider even with Peters and Johnson on the roster next year.
